Process
1. Pick one author. You must have read one of their books. (Day 1)
2. Write a letter or email your author. This should be in business letter form and mailed as soon as possible. You will need to ask your author questions that would pertain to your project. If you find an interview with your author you could also use the information from that. (Day 2 and 3)
3. Begin your research. Using books and technology find out as much as you can about your author. Use author sites provided for research. Use the questions provided and two-column notes to gather your information. Look especially for a book list and awards. Always keep a note card on your desk to write down sources of information. (Day 4, 5, 6, 7)
4. Once you have done your research you will begin working on your visual for the presentation. The best/easiest is to use a piece of poster board or display board. The visual should include: picture of the author, professional/personal information, graphics of books or things pertaining to the books, style statement, awards, booklist, and any other interesting visuals. (Day 8 and 9)
6. Present!!! It is time to present to the class. You will share the information you researched and your visual. (Day 10 and 11)
* I don't care if you are a big kid and you choose a picture book author/illustrator, as long as you end up analyzing the books in a thoughtful, insightful way.
